New York , New York (1)

Posting from New York.

Ok, the trip is not purely for training, I arrived a few days ahead to make sure that my jet lag is under control. It was not too bad, but I also walked around Manhattan Island a lot to see the necessary tourist attractions.

Night stroll at Brant Park

Spot lights from the building nearby shown like daylight, creating strong shadow pattern of the tree and leaves.

Some Wide Angle Pictures

Hello, I think I have done a lot about photography in the last few years and have written a lot about photography in the last few months. Strangely, the writing of the blog actually confirms a lot of my thinking and thoughts. I now believe that no matter what is in our mind, it is not a well thought out idea unless it is put in writing. Treat writing as a way to reaffirm our thoughts and many times our thoughts will be much expanded with writing.

When I was reviewing my portfolio, I came across a few wide-angle shots, all unfortunately were shot with a Leica 21mm F2.8 asph. Yes, I know I should not mention any equipment, but I just could not resist to tell you about the most famous wide angle len which is in current production. However, I know there is at least another modern len which can rival the 21asph, i.e. Zeiss 21mm Biogon, yes, I know, I know.. (just can't help it).

Please bear in mind, this is no test report, but actual usage of a well known len in real life for a self who is stupid enough to paid this kind of money. Is it worth it?

My friend and I was exploring a building which is next to Tanjong Katong MRT station. We walked up the stairs which is actually in open air and I saw this image. This can only be captured with a 21mm len. I tried to open up the aperture a bit to preserve shadow details and let the camera to take care of the exposure. Furthermore, I realized that for portrait mode, it is better to use 4x5 aspect ratio, easier on the yes and the head does not have to move up and down to get focus on the whole picture.

I am happy with the new blogger interface, I can now post bigger picture without getting distortion. Thank you Google.

You should know that there are many ways of taking picture, one way is to get up earlier to catch the morning sun, the building will get the 3D feeling easier without having to buy very very expensive leica lens. However, with Leica lens the 3D sense is stronger (just joking!).

Another building near by the same MRT station. I raised my head towards the sky and notices the nice division of the color of yellow, orange, cream and blue. Interesting color and different view point which normally we do not see if we just keep looking forward.

Another picture near Millennia, the wide angle created such a sense of being there because it included all the images which our eyes can see. I quite like this picture because it is a reproduction of the image in my mind. OOPS! this is not a leica len. In fact, from the perspective, it is a 15mm ultra wide angle len. Which is the modern 15mm len which is not Leica not Zeiss? Your guess!

So I realized that I have to settle on a cheaper 15mm len because I cannot afford something like that from leica. Actually, leica never makes a 15mm, so who cares whether it is affordable or not.

Treat this as a little show-off. I shall try not to do this again.
